How a milestone is earned

Every badge is tied to one measured quantity and one threshold. The measurement happens on CoMiles’ own servers from completed rides; nothing about it is entered by the member, and nothing about it can be edited afterwards.

• Rides shared — journeys that actually carried a passenger. A drive with an empty car is not a shared ride and never counts towards one of these.
• Distance shared — passenger-kilometres: the distance each completed pickup-to-drop-off segment actually travelled. A driver’s empty route adds none of it, and a passenger never inherits the driver’s whole journey.
• Emissions avoided — an estimate derived from that distance, at 120 grams of CO₂ per car-kilometre.
• Seats given — for drivers, the seats that completed a ride in their car.
• Time on CoMiles — three months, six months, a year, two years. Each one needs at least three shared rides behind it, because time on an app you never used is not an achievement.
• Consistency — runs of consecutive weeks with at least one shared ride in each.
• Reliability — completed rides with no no-show recorded, and the rating co-riders gave.
• Community — people you invited who went on to complete a ride of their own.

Emissions figures are estimates, not measurements. They apply a national average per-kilometre factor to distance actually shared; they do not measure any particular vehicle’s output.

A milestone is not a reward

CoMiles gives no credit, no discount, no cashback and no priority in search for reaching a milestone, and there is no plan to. A badge is recognition of something that happened, in the same way a referral on CoMiles is a record of who invited whom rather than a bounty either side collects.

This is a deliberate design choice rather than a gap. The moment a badge is worth money, the rational thing to do is to post rides that never happen in order to farm it — and the people harmed by that are the commuters who search a route and find a seat that was never real.

No milestone affects pricing, matching, ranking, or any decision CoMiles makes about a member. A badge is a statement about the past and nothing else.

What is on a shared badge, and what is not

A member can share a milestone as an image to LinkedIn, Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook or X. What that image is allowed to contain is fixed by the app, not by the member.

• It carries the badge, the number, and — only if the member leaves the switch on — their first name and profile photo.
• It never carries a route, a pickup point, a destination, an address, a workplace, a travel time, a ride date, or anyone the member travelled with.
• Where a figure is an estimate, the word “estimated” is printed on the image itself rather than in the caption, so it survives a crop or an edited post.
• CoMiles is not told where a shared image goes. The phone’s share sheet does not report which app was chosen, and the app records only that a share happened.

Can somebody else see my milestones?

Your most recent badges appear on your public CoMiles profile, alongside your rating and reliability — but in their own section, never inside “Trust at a glance”. A milestone says what you did; a trust signal says what CoMiles checked. Merging them would tell a rider that something had been verified when it had not.

Nobody you have blocked, and nobody who has blocked you, can see your milestones — the request returns the same empty answer it returns for a profile that does not exist.

A milestone is not a safety signal. It says a member has travelled, not that they are safe to travel with. Ride safely and use the safety controls the app gives you regardless of what anybody’s profile shows.

Do milestones ever disappear?

No. An award is recorded once and is never revoked, even if the number behind it later moves — a ride is disputed, a rating is withdrawn. A badge somebody has already shared to their feed must not vanish from underneath them.
